Peruvian cuisine at locals’ homes

Eating at locals’ homes

Get to know ‘the ordinary Peruvian’ during your trip. That can be arranged! Eating at locals’ homes is the basis for a friendly meeting.

We have a reliable network of local families where you can sit at the table. You see the food being prepared (or lend a hand) and then you eat together. In a relaxed way you can see how Peruvians live and conversations come about easily.

By sharing a meal you directly support the family you are joining. We can record this activity for you in the cities of Cusco, Lima and/or Arequipa.

The Peruvian cuisine

Peruvians are incredibly proud of their cuisine. Peruvian cuisine is known as one of the best in South America. Contemporary Peruvian cuisine is an age-old mix of Indian, Spanish, but also African and Asian influences. The different climates in Peru also provide a very large variety of ingredients. For example, a lot of fish is eaten on the coast, the emphasis in the Andes mountains is more on potatoes and corn and in the rainforest more rice, bananas and other ingredients that can be found in the rainforest are eaten.

Tour Plan

DAY 01 Eating at locals' homes

Eating at locals' homes

At a pre-arranged place and time, close to your hotel, you will be picked up by a member of the host family.

Tip

Join us at the local market to shop for meals and prepare the food together with the locals at home.

Practical information

Included is food, drinks (water and soft drinks) and a lot of fun. Transport to the meeting point is not included. You can indicate in advance what kind of meal you prefer (meat, fish, vegetarian). It is not necessary to be able to speak Spanish, although it is always nice to know a few words. It is useful to bring a pen, paper and a dictionary.

ResiRest

For this part of the trip, we work together with ResiRest. ResiRest's mission is to connect local families and travelers worldwide through food. The host family earns some extra money by preparing the meals and you as a traveler have a very special encounter. Below is a nice promotional video about Peru in which the traveler also had a meal at a local's home via ResiRest.
