Eco Amazonia Peru is a luxury lodge in the somewhat cheaper segment. The lodge is located on the Madre de Dios River, in the Tambopata National Park, a short 2-hour boat ride from the city of Puerto Maldonado. The lodge consists of 50 separate bungalows. There is also a swimming pool on the property that you can use. Eco Amazonia Peru is a great choice for shorter stays in the rainforest and when you are looking for luxury for a ‘soft’ price.
Animals that are common around Eco Amazonia Peru are monkeys such as spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys and golden lion tamarins and other animals such as caimans, parrots and many other types of birds. Furthermore, animals such as pumas, jaguars and giant otters can also be found in the area, but for these animals you have to be lucky to see them.
Tour Plan
Day 1
Below is a description of what a 4-day stay in the Eco Amazonia Peru lodge might look like.
In the morning you fly from Lima or Cusco to Puerto Maldonado. You will be picked up from the airport in Puerto Maldonado and taken to the port of this town via a meeting point in the city with the other travelers. Here you will depart by boat on the Madre de Dios river to the lodge in the rainforest. During this boat trip you will already have a first opportunity to see caimans, turtles, capybaras (water pigs), etc. in the wild.
At the lodge in the rainforest you will be offered a welcome drink and have a moment for yourself. After lunch you will take a walk with your guide to a small lake nearby where different species of caiman, including the black caiman, live. Your guide will then take you to a place where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Day 2
The morning starts with cheerful birdsong from the rainforest. After breakfast you will depart with your guide deeper into the rainforest. You will visit a piece of forest that is often under water and where a large variety of flora and wildlife can be found. You will walk further to the crystal clear lake Apu Victor surrounded by swamp and giant trees. From an observation deck you have a beautiful view over the lake and you can see toucans, macaws, herons and many other species of birds. Other animals that occur in this area are different species of turtles and caimans. With a bit of luck you will also see giant otters.
After lunch you will visit Monkey Island, a unique island located in the river Madre de Dios. This beautiful place is home to different types of monkeys such as spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, golden lion tamarins, many different types of birds and other animals such as the sloth. After experiencing sunset on the island you will return to your lodge.
Day 3
After breakfast you will take a walk deeper into the rainforest. You will visit 'Lost Cocha', a lake with a swamp around it and a refuge for many different animals, such as otters, caimans, turtles, tapirs, jaguars and many different species of birds and fish. From the observation deck you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. After a canoe trip on the lake you will return to the lodge.
After lunch you will visit the nearby botanical gardens with your guide. Instead of this visit you can also choose to 'do nothing' for an afternoon and for example use the swimming pool next to the lodge.
Day 4
You get up early again. After breakfast you will be taken by boat to the port of Puerto Maldonado. On the way back you can enjoy the break of dawn on the river Madre de Dios. In Puerto Maldonado you will be taken to the airport.
NB: If you have less time to go to the rainforest, for example 3 days, that is possible. Day 3 of this description will then be omitted.
