Laguna 69 in Huascaran National Park
With an international group you go to the starting point for the hike of Laguna 69. On the way you can already notice from the landscape that it is going to be a fantastic day. On location the guide stays nearby but you can take your walk to Laguna 69 at your own pace and rest, which is actually the end goal of the total 6 hour walk. The walk and surroundings themselves are already so beautiful that Laguna 69 will almost no longer be the highlight of the day… You start – and end this excursion in the city of Huaraz. There are several day walks that you can do from Huaraz or the multi-day trek of Santa Cruz trek.
Laguna 69 is located at the foot of Chacraraju Mountain (6100m), one of the most beautiful and difficult mountains to climb in the Cordillera Blanca. The trek also offers great views of other mountains such as Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Yanapaqcha and Pisco. On the way to the lake you will encounter a variety of flora, waterfalls and other small lakes. The trek is considered somewhat difficult due to its high altitude (4650m).
This morning the departure is at 05:00 from the hotel where you will be picked up. At 05:30 the final departure of the group from Huaraz towards the Callejon de Huaylas to Yungay where you then go by road to the Llanganuco valley. During this morning ride there will be a stop for a mate and/or breakfast (not included). Once at the control of the Huascaran National Park you will be registered and there is an entrance fee of 30 Sol. Once in the national park the road climbs slowly and the first stop is at the fantastic lake. After a stop you continue by car towards Cebollapampa where the walk begins. The walk up takes 3 hours until you reach Laguna 69 (4604 m.). You go through the Demanda canyon. Along the way you will see various vizcachas between the rocks, the snow-capped peak of Yanapaccha (5460 msnm). In cloudy or clear skies, the waters of Laguna 69 reflect an intense blue like the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by snow-capped mountains such as Chacraraju (6112 m), Pisco, Huandoy, Huascaran and Chopicalqui. Here is enough time to enjoy the view and your own packed lunch. In about 2 hours you will have descended the same route and you will be back at the car in Cebollapampa. From there it is about a 2-hour drive back to Huaraz.
