Maras salt terraces

The town of Maras is located in the middle of the Sacred Valley, about an hour's drive from the city of Cusco. Maras is best known for the Maras Salt Terraces. These salt terraces consist of more than 3,000 small pits in which salt is extracted using an ingenious system. Maras dates back to the Inca era, and salt is still extracted in this way today. The area is ideal for a beautiful walk.
The town of Maras has a beautiful colonial-era church that can also be visited.

Moray

The archaeological site of Moray consists of a large number of terraced circles, the largest of which is over 30 meters deep. To this day, it is not precisely known why the Incas constructed these circles. It was likely an agricultural testing station where the Incas tested the effects of various climatic conditions on crops. The circles are arranged in such a way that, due to depth, wind, and sun, there is a temperature difference of as much as 15 °C between the top and the bottom.
