Day-by-Day Itinerary
Laguna 69 is situated at the foot of Mount Chacraraju (6,100m), one of the most beautiful and difficult mountains to climb in the Cordillera Blanca. The trek also offers stunning views of other mountains such as Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Yanapaqcha, and Pisco. On the way to the lake, you encounter a variety of flora, waterfalls, and other small lakes. The trek is considered moderately difficult due to its high altitude (4,650m).
Departure this morning is at 5:00 AM from the hotel, where you will be picked up. At 5:30 AM, the group will make its final departure from Huaraz towards the Callejon de Huaylas to Yungay, from where you will continue by road to the Llanganuco Valley. During this morning drive, there will be a stop for mate and/or breakfast (not included). Upon arrival at the Huascaran National Park checkpoint, you will be registered and there is an entrance fee of 30 Sol. Once inside the national park, the road climbs slowly upwards, and the first stop is at the fantastic lake. After a stop, you continue by car towards Cebollapampa, where the hike begins. The ascent takes 3 hours until you reach Laguna 69 (4,604 m). You will pass through the Demanda Gorge. Along the way, you will see various vizcachas nestled among the rocks and the snow-capped peak of Yanapaccha (5,460 m above sea level). In cloudy or clear skies, the waters of Laguna 69 reflect an intense blue like the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by snow-capped mountains such as Chacraraju (6,112 m), Pisco, Huandoy, Huascaran, and Chopicalqui. There is ample time here to enjoy the view and your packed lunch. In about 2 hours, you will have descended the same route and be back at the car in Cebollapampa. From there, it is about a 2-hour drive back to Huaraz.
